The Associazione di Consulenza in Diritto Internazionale del Mare (ASCOMARE) is a global platform founded in 2018, dedicated to offering pro bono legal consultancy and technical assistance to governments, public and private organizations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). ASCOMARE’s primary mission is to promote the consistent and comprehensive application of the law of the sea, with particular focus on the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). As the cornerstone of international maritime law, UNCLOS establishes a legal framework governing the rights, responsibilities, and use of the world’s oceans and seas, and ASCOMARE aims to support its uniform adoption and enforcement across diverse legal and policy contexts.
By providing expert guidance on maritime boundary disputes, resource management, and environmental protection, ASCOMARE works to enhance international cooperation, ensure sustainable ocean governance, and uphold the rule of law at sea. Through collaboration with stakeholders from various sectors, the organization contributes to the strengthening of legal frameworks and capacity-building efforts that promote equitable and sustainable use of marine resources.
