ASCOMARE serves as a core partner in the “Exploring the Blue Economy for Youth Workers” initiative, a KA153-YOU (Mobility of Youth Workers) project coordinated by Ankara University’s National Center for the Sea and Maritime Law and supported by funding from the EU and the Turkish National Agency.
The project boosts youth workers’ expertise in the Blue Economy, equipping them to drive sustainable marine resource management, shape maritime policies, and engage with emerging ocean-based industries.
Through focused training and workshops, participants dive into the economic and environmental dimensions of the Blue Economy, covering marine ecosystem protection, renewable ocean energy, maritime entrepreneurship, and sustainable tourism, all framed by the European Green Deal, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and international maritime law.
Beyond capacity building, the initiative strengthens international cooperation, bringing together academics, practitioners, and youth workers at the Blue Economy Consortium Foundation Meeting to design joint projects and lasting partnerships.
By transferring their new knowledge to young people, participating youth workers become key influencers and change agents in sustainable ocean governance, empowering the next generation to pursue Blue Economy careers and craft effective solutions at local, national, and global levels.
